To put people's speculations to rest, K. Michelle took to her Twitter to set things straight. She tweeted that she actually thinks Kim Kardashian is "fly," but that the "statement behind the song is black Women are rarely given credit for our cultural trends and flyness."
She went on to say, "Truths can be spoken without a shade tree behind them." The artist even admitted that she's made changes to her image, which she later regretted, based on societal beauty standards placed on black women.
The Memphis native also mentioned how the very looks and body types that black women are ostracized for are the same looks that non-black women are celebrated for, recalling a time when her white vocal coach told her not to wear braids to her talent shows because they weren't polished and she wouldn't win.
